Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 1/7

Posted Jan 7, 2014

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, January 7, 2013.

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, January 7, 2013.

All reports, rumors and conjecture are a reflection of the media conversation and are not endorsed or confirmed by the Washington Redskins.

--Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell was interviewed by Redskins team officials on Monday for the vacant head coaching position. Fewell was the fifth coach interviewed by general manager Bruce Allen and other team officials.

--The Washington Redskins continue to expand their search for a new head coach and reportedly request permission to interview San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.

--A detailed analysis of potential Redskins head coach candidate Jim Caldwell. This past season Caldwell was the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens who ranked 29th in total offense and averaged just 20 points a game.

--According to unconfirmed sources, third-year Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin is expected to interview with the Redskins team officials this week. Franklin would be the first college coach reported in connection with the head coach vacancy.

--Former head coach Jon Gruden is content with his job at ESPN and dismissed any rumors of him taking the Redskins coaching position. Gruden said, “I’m happy to have the job I have.”

--The Redskins are reportedly looking at both the Cincinnati Bengals' offensive and defensive coordinators to potentially take the open head coaching position in Washington. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer are both popular names for other teams in search of head coaches this offseason.

--Former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley spoke about Redskins player personnel officials Scott Campbell and Morocco Brown on ESPN 980. Cooley said, “I can tell you that they’re two guys that I enjoy very much.”

--One reporter looks at quarterback Robert Griffin III and what kind of effect he will have on the new Redskins head coach next season.

--A look back on the life of former Redskins offensive lineman John Wilbur. Wilbur played for the Redskins in 1971 with the “Over The Hill Gang.”

--An recap of the coaching candidates that have been interviewed and a look ahead to who still may be targeted to become the next head coach of the Washington Redskins.

--Draft prospects from the National Championship game between Florida State and Auburn. The Redskins need to shore up their defense and Florida State’s Lamarcus Joyner could play both cornerback and safety and was named first-team All-ACC this season.

--Analyzing who the right fit would be to fill the vacant head coaching position for the Washington Redskins and what type of coach will bring the necessary ideas to bring out the talent this roster has.

--Looking ahead to next year and five potential draft picks from the 2011-2012 draft that could make an impact next year. Cornerback Richard Crawford would be the most appreciated due to a depleted secondary that will lose players due to free agency and if healthy he should be able to help punt returning as well.

--A look at the five coaches already reported to have interviewed with the Redskins and the six other coaches the Redskins have reportedly requested permission to interview.

--A Virginia Commonwealth University study shows that the Washington Redskins had a $10.5 million impact on the Richmond region due to their training camp that was held there for the first time.
