The Redskins have promoted defensive end Doug Worthington and tight end Rob Myers from the practice squad, signing them to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

The Redskins have promoted defensive end Doug Worthington and tight end Rob Myers from the practice squad, signing them to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

Myers replaces tight end Dominique Byrd, who was released. Worthington takes the roster spot of safety LaRon Landry, who was placed on injured reserve last week.

The Redskins also signed safety Michael Hamlin and tight end Schuylar Oordt to their practice squad.

Worthington, 6-5 and 292 pounds, entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (242nd overall) of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010.

Worthington played college football at Ohio State and started in 35 career games on the Buckeyes’ defensive line. He recorded 103 career tackles, 12 tackles for loss and four sacks.

As a senior, he played in 13 games and finished with 42 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks. Worthington was named honorable mention All-Big Ten his senior year.

Worthington is a native of Buffalo.

Myers, 6-4 and 239 pounds, has had NFL stints with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts prior to signing with the Redskins' practice squad on Nov. 15.

Myers played college football at Utah State where he had 31 receptions for 445 yards and three touchdowns in his career. He missed his entire senior season due to a toe injury.

Myers was born in Dallas and attended high school in Houston.

Oordt, 6-6 and 261 pounds, was originally signed by the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent and spent part of the 2011 season as part of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. He played collegiately at the University of Northern Iowa, posting 66 catches for 1,229 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 18.6 yards per catch from 2007-10.

Hamlin, 6-2 and 207 pounds, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft and spent time with both the Jaguars and Colts before joining the Redskins.

Hamlin played college football at Clemson where the Tigers’ defensive captain started 43 games, the most by a defensive back in school history. His 14 interceptions rank third in school annals and he also ranks second in school history with 18 takeaways.

Byrd played in two games with the Redskins, including last Sunday's game against the New York Giants. He was in his third NFL season and the first with the Redskins.
