Redskins Add Rogers, Subtract Montgomery

Posted Mar 14, 2014

In other moves, Washington Redskins announced they signed free agent K Jake Rogers. In addition, team announced they released C Will Montgomery.

In other moves, Washington Redskins announced they signed free agent kicker Jake Rogers.

In addition, team announced they released center Will Montgomery. Though not confirmed by the team, NFL transaction log notes that he failed his physical.

This continues the shakeup of the Redskins interior offensive line, combined with the addition of Shawn Lauvao on Wednesday.

As it currently stands, left guard Kory Lichtensteiger is in line to shift to center, freeing up left guard for Lauvao. The team may make additional moves later in free agency or add through the draft.

Third-year interior lineman Josh LeRibeus also has experience at the center position.

Rogers (6-3, 195) originally signed with the New Orleans Saints as a college free agent on July 28, 2011. Across three NFL seasons, he has had stints with the Saints (2011), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2011-12), Dallas Cowboys (2012-13) and New York Giants (2013).

Rogers played collegiately at Cincinnati from 2008-11, finishing as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 339 points.

Rogers, 26, attended Warsaw (Ind.) H.S. where he was a three-time all-league selection in soccer and set school records for most PATs and field goals. He was born on May 24, 1987.
