Morgan Hopes For Return To Washington

Posted Feb 8, 2014

In a Thursday interview with Redskins.com, pending free agent WR Joshua Morgan said he wants to stay with his hometown team in Washington.

Joshua Morgan grew up in the shadow of R.F.K. stadium, graduated from Maury Elementary School off Constitution Ave. and advanced to Elliott Junior High and later H.D. Woodson High School.

In a Thursday interview at the Redskins Read FedEx Special Delivery event at Washington Grove Elementary school, the pending free agent said he wants to stay with his home team.

“Of course,” Morgan said. “This is my hometown. This is my community. My family is here. My friends are here. This is my team I grew up rooting for.”

After a banner year in 2012, Morgan saw his production dip in 2013.

The receiver caught 48 passes for 510 yards and two touchdowns during Washington’s NFC East title run two years ago. He made 20 receptions for 214 yards in 14 games of action last season.

With a new coaching staff installed in Washington, Morgan wants another shot to put his talent on display. He alluded to a strained relationship with departed coach Mike Shanahan but said he’s hoping for a fresh start with Jay Gruden, whom he has yet to meet.

Morgan said he’s “hopeful” he’ll get his chance but has tempered expectations.

“At the end of the day, it’s just hope,” Morgan said. “It’s business. The same thing happened with the team last year. If you’re not winning, changes are going to be made.

At this stage in the offseason, Morgan said he can’t worry about where he’ll play in 2014.

“I’m just hoping and praying that if I’m here, or wherever I am next year, that I’m still playing football and getting an opportunity to show my talents before I get too old,” he said.

For the moment, he’s in “no rush” to sort out his contract situation. He said he is content to stay in shape, enjoy his family and continue giving back to the community.
