Chris Cooley: 'I Won't Play Anywhere Else'

Posted Apr 22, 2013

Free agent tight end Chris Cooley made a recent appearance for the Redskins Charitable Foundation and said he won't play anywhere but Washington if he plays this season.

Redskins tight end Chris Cooley played in the NFL long enough to understand the economics of veteran players and how that fits with his life moving forward.

Speaking to Redskins.comTV at a recent school book reading sponsored by the Redskins Charitable Foundation, Cooley said he hasn't received received much attention in free agency.

"They're not [calling]," he said of other teams' interest in him this offseason. "I have an agent, I know what's going on in the world.

"That work or job aspect of my life has been really interesting because I don't know if I want to play. I don't want to play for another team."

If this is the end of the NFL road for the top receiving tight end in franchise history, he says that is alright with him.

Whatever he chooses to do next, he feels confident that he will land on his feet.

"I've been so proud to be here, and as Joe Gibbs would say, 'a Redskin.'" he said with a smile. "But I've had offers to do some TV stuff, I've had offers for weird stuff. I have 67 acres in Wyoming, so I could get some cows and farm.

"I have a million things that I could do and it's really strange but it's also really cool that people like me for who I am and what I bring to the table. It's not just 'oh, he's a good football player.' So I've been really proud of that."

Cooley classified his first offseason as a free agent as fun, saying he has kept busy with his pottery gallery and giving back to causes he believes in.

"I've been trying to put together three or four community events," he said. "It's been really fun."

One of the events at his gallery is to help benefit Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA). For his part, Cooley is making 400 ceramic dog bowls to be donated to the foundation.

If you would like to support or attend, the event will take place this Saturday, April 27 at The Cooley Gallery in Leesburg.
